If you are considering tackling George Eliot’s classic novel Middlemarch, take this into consideration: your enjoyment of this novel will depend upon your ability to persevere through long passages. If you are willing to read long, wordy, and detailed passages, then this reading experience will definitely pay off in the end. I found that as I read through this book, the farther I got into the story, the more worthwhile it was to keep reading it. There are unique and distinct character plotlines, which develop really well and come together and split apart in both natural and interesting ways as the story progresses. As the plotline and characters develop, readers will get more invested in the story and will need to continue reading so that they can find out how the conflicts are resolved (or not resolved). Despite the sometimes tedious nature of this read, I would certainly recommend this book to readers who are committed to working through long stories, as well as readers who want the books they are reading to have strong, believable, and well-developed characters.
